Best stops along the coast
Start in Hikkaduwa for nightlife and snorkeling, then head to Ahangama and Midigama for quieter surf breaks. Weligama is ideal for beginner surfers, while Mirissa offers whale watching and a lively beach scene.

Activities and best time
Surfing works year-round on the south coast, but November to April brings the best waves for intermediate and advanced surfers at spots like Midigama and Lazy Left.
Whale watching season runs from November to April, with Mirissa and Dondra being the main departure points. Blue whales, sperm whales, and dolphins are regularly spotted.
